Licence and moving to a new computer
The licence
Section titled “The licence”A ReliaEn licence is a signed file for one computer. ReliaEn registers the licence to that computer. The licence works offline, and ReliaEn makes no internet check.
The file shows its expiry date. Every licence opens all modules, and the trial licence opens the same modules.
The licence uses three hardware identifiers of the computer: the Windows machine identifier, the volume serial number of the system disk, and the physical address of the network adapter. Only one-way hashes of these identifiers leave the computer, inside the machine code.
Without a licence, ReliaEn opens in read-only mode. You can open files, but you cannot run analyses.
Request a licence
Section titled “Request a licence”- Install ReliaEn and open Help ▸ Licence….
- Copy your machine code. It starts with
RL-. - Send the machine code to ReliaEn. For the free 30-day trial, use the trial form. After a purchase, use the form at the end of this section. The Request licence by e-mail button in the same dialog writes the e-mail for you.
- Install the licence file you receive with Install licence file… in the same dialog. The status bar then shows the licence and its expiry date.
The machine code, step by step
Start ReliaEn. Before you install a licence, the status bar at the bottom of the window shows “Unlicensed — read-only”. This is normal.
Click Help in the menu bar at the top of the window.
Click Licence… in the list that opens.
The “ReliaEn licence” window opens. The machine code is the line that starts with RL- in the box “This machine’s code”.
Click the Copy button beside the code.
Paste the code into the form at the end of this section. Click in the “Machine codes” box and press Ctrl+V.
ReliaEn builds the machine code from the three hardware identifiers described above. The code contains no personal data. Nobody can use the code to gain access to your computer.
Expiry and renewal
Section titled “Expiry and renewal”- ReliaEn reminds you 30 days before the licence expires.
- After the expiry date, ReliaEn keeps working for a 7-day grace period. After that, it opens in read-only mode until you install a renewed licence file. Your files stay yours and stay readable.
- A renewal is a new licence file for the same registered computer.
Hardware changes in your computer
Section titled “Hardware changes in your computer”The licence stays valid when one part of the computer changes. The licence checks three hardware identifiers, and at least two must match.
- Two or three identifiers match: the licence stays valid.
- One identifier matches: ReliaEn runs for a 14-day grace period and shows a message. Request a transfer within these 14 days (see the next section).
- No identifier matches: the licence belongs to another computer, and ReliaEn tells you at once.
Transfer to a new computer
Section titled “Transfer to a new computer”You can transfer a licence to another computer only through ReliaEn licence support.
- Install ReliaEn on the new computer and copy its machine code.
- Send a transfer request. Use the form at the end of this section and select “Transfer to another computer”, or write to license@reliaen.com. Give the order number, the machine code of the old computer, the machine code of the new computer and the reason.
- ReliaEn issues a new licence file for the remaining term and updates the licence register within 1 business day.
- Install the new licence file on the new computer and remove the licence file from the old computer. Using ReliaEn on the old computer after a transfer breaches the licence.
Each licence year includes one transfer. ReliaEn grants further transfers for hardware failure or replacement, if you state the reason.
The system clock
Section titled “The system clock”ReliaEn compares the clock of the computer with the time of the last run. If the clock is earlier, ReliaEn shows a message. Set the clock to the correct date and time, and restart ReliaEn.
Licence request and transfer form
Section titled “Licence request and transfer form”Thank you. Your request is now at license@reliaen.com. The seller sends your licence file by e-mail.
